Pada tanggal 8 Juni 2024, sebuah kejadian di perairan sekitar Pulau Payung dekat kampung Sungsang. Kapal MT Timur Laut Mas 2, pada pukul 19.40 WIB, dilaporkan mengalami kandas di koordinat 02-22-505 S/104-54-287 E, hanya 0,5 NM barat Pulau Payung.
Meskipun pihak kapal dan Pandu telah berupaya secara maksimal untuk melepaskan kapal dari kandas, upaya tersebut belum membuahkan hasil. Saat ini, kapal masih terjebak di lokasi kejadian.
Dalam upaya penyelamatan, pihak kapal telah memutuskan untuk menunggu pasang besar malam hari yang diperkirakan terjadi sekitar pukul 21.00 WIB. Pasang besar ini diharapkan dapat membantu proses pembebasan kapal dari posisi kandasnya.
Palembang VTS telah mengeluarkan peringatan keselamatan terkait kejadian ini. Mereka telah menyampaikan informasi kepada kapal-kapal di sekitar area tersebut untuk memperhatikan jalur navigasi dan tetap waspada.

On June 8, 2024, an incident occurred in the waters around Payung Island near Sungsang village. The MT Timur Laut Mas 2 ship, at 19:40 WIB, was reported to have run aground at coordinates 02-22-505 S/104-54-287 E, only 0.5 NM west of Payung Island.
Despite the ship's and pilot's maximum efforts to free the vessel from grounding, the attempts have not been successful. Currently, the ship remains trapped at the incident location.
In rescue efforts, the ship's authorities have decided to wait for the expected high tide around 21:00 WIB. This high tide is anticipated to assist in freeing the ship from its grounded position.
The Palembang VTS has issued safety warnings regarding this incident. They have communicated information to vessels in the surrounding area to be mindful of navigation routes and remain vigilant.
