Pada hari Kamis, 23 Mei 2024, sekitar pukul 10.45 WIB, insiden kebakaran terjadi pada Kapal Roro KMP Permata Lestari I yang sedang bersandar di Pelabuhan BUMD Bengkalis, Provinsi Riau. Berdasarkan keterangan saksi, Saksi bernama Aal Barokah yang merupakan Cleaning Service Kapal beserta beberapa saksi lainnya sedang bekerja di bawah atau Car deck kapal ketika mereka melihat percikan api yang muncul dari ruang penumpang di lantai dua.
Melihat percikan api tersebut, Aal Barokah beserta saksi lainnya segera berlari mengambil peralatan pemadam kebakaran dari kapal sebelah untuk mencoba memadamkan api. Mereka juga meminta bantuan dengan menghubungi petugas Dinas Perhubungan Kabupaten Bengkalis dan petugas pemadam kebakaran.
Sekitar pukul 10.55 WIB, personil dari Satuan Polisi Air dan Udara (Sat Polairud) Polres Bengkalis beserta Piket Fungsi Polres Bengkalis dan Polsek Bengkalis tiba di lokasi kejadian kebakaran (TKP) untuk mengamankan area dan memeriksa saksi-saksi. Satu menit kemudian, pukul 10.56 WIB, petugas pemadam kebakaran tiba di TKP untuk melakukan upaya pemadaman. Setelah bekerja keras, pada pukul 12.20 WIB api berhasil dipadamkan sepenuhnya.
Hingga saat ini, penyebab pasti kebakaran belum dapat dipastikan dan masih dalam proses penyelidikan, mengingat pada saat kejadian, kelistrikan kapal Roro tersebut dalam keadaan mati karena sedang dalam perbaikan.
Kebakaran ini tidak menimbulkan korban jiwa. Namun, kerugian materi akibat insiden ini belum dapat dipastikan. Kapal Roro KMP Permata Lestari I sendiri sudah bersandar di Pelabuhan BUMD Bengkalis dan sedang dalam perbaikan sejak dua minggu yang lalu.
Dengan api yang telah berhasil dipadamkan sepenuhnya pada pukul 12.20 WIB, situasi di lokasi kejadian kini dalam keadaan aman dan kondusif. Investigasi lebih lanjut akan dilakukan untuk memastikan penyebab kebakaran dan untuk menghindari kejadian serupa di masa mendatang.

One minute later, at 10:56 AM WIB, firefighters arrived at the scene to carry out firefighting efforts. After working diligently, the fire was fully extinguished by 12:20 WIB.
The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation and has not yet been determined, especially since the electrical system of the Roro ship was turned off due to ongoing repairs at the time of the incident.
There were no casualties from the fire. However, the material losses resulting from this incident have yet to be ascertained. The Roro ship KMP Permata Lestari I had been berthing at BUMD Bengkalis Port for repairs for the past two weeks.
With the fire successfully extinguished by 12:20 PM WIB, the situation at the scene is now safe and under control. Further investigations will be conducted to determine the cause of the fire and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
