This information was received by VTS Cirebon from the Indramayu Port Authority (UPP) via an official letter numbered AL.817/1/01/UPP.IRU-2025 on Monday (20/1).
According to the chronology, the incident began on January 18, 2025, when the tugboat TB Bahari 31 was towing the barge BG FBSD 868 from Indramayu to Bojonegara. During the voyage, at approximately 5:00 PM local time, the tugboat's right engine malfunctioned while encountering a western storm. Waves reaching heights of 4 meters and strong winds at 23 knots forced the vessel to turn back to Indramayu as it was unable to continue the journey. The vessel's position at the time was at coordinates 05°44’748”S - 107°37’386”E, near Tanjung Sedari.
The following day, January 19, 2025, the vessel faced another storm with waves 3–4 meters high while en route to Tanjung Indramayu. Consequently, the barge BG FBSD 868 and the tugboat TB Bahari 31 were stranded at coordinates 06°14’791”S - 108°17’260”E on Tanjung Indramayu Beach.
Evacuation efforts were promptly initiated, and the tugboat TB Bahari 31 was successfully evacuated to the Indramayu PLTU (power plant) by another tugboat, TB Yang Viti 8. However, the barge BG FBSD 868 remains at the site and has not yet been evacuated.
At 4:25 PM, VTS Cirebon operators monitored the barge's position to ensure the safety of marine traffic in the surrounding area. Later, at 5:00 PM, VTS Cirebon broadcasted a Notice to Mariners (NTM) via securite announcements regarding the incident.
The extreme weather in the region highlights the high risks faced by vessels operating during the western monsoon season. The evacuation of the barge BG FBSD 868 awaits favorable weather conditions. Authorities continue to coordinate to ensure the safety and smooth progress of the evacuation.
