Namun, sebelum proses pengolongan dimulai, cuaca mendadak berubah ekstrem.

ENGLISH VERSION
Samarinda, January 14, 2025 – An incident occurred on the Mahakam River on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, when the tugboat TB.MHKL 205, towing the barge BG.MARINE POWER 3036, faced significant challenges due to severe weather. The barge, which was empty, was en route to Muara Pahu and arrived under the Mahakam Bridge at 12:20 WITA to await the bridge opening for passage upstream.
At 13:00 WITA, according to guidance information, the Mahakam Bridge was opened for passage. The TB.MHKL 205 was fourth in line, following the tugboat TB.Danny 116. However, before the passage process began, the weather suddenly turned extreme. Strong winds with speeds of 20–25 knots accompanied by heavy rain struck the area, forcing the guidance team to temporarily halt the passage process.
In this situation, the barge BG.MARINE POWER 3036 was pushed by the strong wind, causing its bow to drift toward the riverbank. The TB.MHKL 205 attempted to maneuver and hold the barge, but the towing line snapped due to the strong winds. The ship’s captain immediately contacted Samarinda's guidance authority via VHF radio and requested assistance from the tugboat TB.Herlin to secure the barge.
Due to the strong outgoing current and high winds, the bow of BG.MARINE POWER 3036 collided with a café building in the Samarinda Seberang area. Limited visibility caused by the heavy rain further complicated the ship’s control efforts.
With assistance from TB.Herlin, the barge was successfully pulled back to the middle of the river and secured. BG.MARINE POWER 3036 completed its mooring on the opposite side at 14:45 WITA.
The Samarinda Water and Air Police (POLAIRUD) are currently investigating the incident, while details of the damage to the café building are pending further inspection at the site. This event serves as a crucial reminder of the need for heightened vigilance when dealing with extreme weather conditions in waterways.
