Wassu, December 8, 2024 – The Landing Craft Tank (LCT) Golden 7 was grounded on the shores of Wassu Village, Central Maluku Regency, on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 4:12 PM WIT. The incident occurred due to an engine failure that left the vessel unable to withstand strong winds and high waves, causing it to drift and run aground on rocky shores approximately 300 meters from Oma Port Jety.

On December 7, 2024, at 4:00 PM WIT, LCT Golden 7 departed from Oma Port Jety carrying a cargo of 10 dump trucks. Despite one engine being inoperative, the ship attempted to sail toward Tulehu Port. However, severe weather conditions caused the vessel to lose control, eventually drifting ashore at Wassu Village within the operational area (Wilker) of Pelauw.

At 6:00 PM WIT, the ship's captain reported via telephone that the vessel had run aground. Eight crew members (ABK) and ten dump truck drivers were evacuated ashore and are now at a camp in Oma Village.

Response Measures:

  1. Coordination with Nearby Operators and Vessels:

Officials from UPP Class II Tulehu immediately coordinated with nearby vessel operators, including PT Pelayaran Sumber Rejeki, which operates the Avira III vessel. However, mechanical issues prevented the vessel from assisting with the evacuation. Other vessels reported the following conditions:

    • The MT Mitra Kemakmuran was still discharging cargo in Waai.
    • The SPOB Cinta Damai from PT Pulau Patmos was docked at Tulehu Port.
  1. Deployment of KN Salawaku:

On December 8, 2024, at 5:50 AM WIT, the patrol vessel KN Salawaku from PLP Tual departed from Amahai Port toward the incident location. The vessel is estimated to arrive at 9:30 AM WIT to assist in evacuating the grounded ship and its cargo.

As of this report, the evacuation process is still underway, focusing on the vessel's recovery and securing the dump truck cargo. UPP Class II Tulehu and PLP Tual continue to coordinate efforts to ensure the situation is resolved safely and efficiently.
