Kronologi Kejadian
MT Samudra Sindo 38 berangkat dari Pelabuhan Bitung pada tanggal 22 Agustus 2024 pukul 16.48 WITA dengan tujuan Pelabuhan Tangkiang. Pada tanggal 25 Agustus 2024, sekitar pukul 03.30 WITA, kapal mengalami gangguan mesin (trouble engine), namun tidak dapat berlabuh karena kedalaman laut yang mencapai 1600-900 meter. Akibatnya, kapal terpaksa mengapung-apung di posisi 01°00.825'S, 123°00.300'E.
Kondisi memburuk pada pukul 09.30 WITA ketika cuaca buruk melanda, menyebabkan kapal hanyut sejauh 13 mil laut dari posisi sebelumnya. Kapal berhasil berlabuh pada koordinat 01°03.018'S, 123°17.724'E, namun angin kencang mendorong kapal hingga kandas. Upaya untuk mengeluarkan kapal dari area kandas telah dilakukan pada pukul 15.00 WITA, tetapi hingga saat ini belum berhasil.
Tindakan Penanganan
Instansi terkait, termasuk Stasiun Radio Pantai (SROP) Luwuk, telah melakukan koordinasi untuk menangani insiden ini. Namun, posko penanganan khusus belum didirikan, dan kegiatan pencarian serta penyelamatan (SAR) juga belum dilakukan. Penanganan kerusakan lingkungan dan tindakan lainnya masih dalam tahap perencanaan.
Pada tanggal 26 Agustus 2024 MT. Samudra Sindo 38 keluar dari lokasi kapal kandas dibantu oleh TB Guci 08 pada pukul 06.00 WITA dan sudah berlayar menuju Pelabuhan Luwuk untuk perbaikan mesin.
Dugaan Sementara Penyebab Kecelakaan
Berdasarkan investigasi awal, kecelakaan ini diduga disebabkan oleh faktor alam, terutama angin kencang yang mengakibatkan kapal hanyut dan kandas.

The situation worsened at 09:30 WITA when bad weather struck, causing the ship to drift 13 nautical miles from its previous position.
