Pada tanggal 14 Juli 2024 pukul 14.22 WITA, VTS Balikpapan menerima laporan dari seorang nelayan melalui WhatsApp yang melihat tugboat dengan tongkang mengalami kebocoran di bagian buritan sehingga miring. Tugboat tersebut diidentifikasi sebagai TB BMP 1243 dengan tongkang NELLY 56.
Operator VTS segera melakukan pemantauan dan memanggil melalui radio VHF ch 16 untuk mendapatkan informasi lebih lanjut. Pada pukul 14.30 WITA, TB BMP 1243 melaporkan bahwa tongkang mereka mulai mengalami kebocoran sejak pukul 09.40 WITA saat melintasi perairan Sepinggan, Balikpapan.
Kapal tersebut membawa muatan batu split atau coral dan berangkat dari Palu dengan tujuan Sungai Riko, Balikpapan. Jumlah anak buah kapal (ABK) sebanyak 9 orang, termasuk nakhoda, dilaporkan dalam kondisi aman. Namun, saat ini tongkang tersebut mengalami kandas di bagian buritan dengan posisi koordinat 01°17.8191 S, 116°54.247 E, yang berada di luar jalur pelayaran.
Menanggapi situasi ini, VTS Balikpapan telah melaporkan kejadian tersebut kepada Kantor KSOP Balikpapan, BASARNAS Balikpapan, dan agensi terkait di Balikpapan untuk koordinasi lebih lanjut. VTS juga terus melakukan pemantauan terhadap situasi ini.

On July 14, 2024, at 14:22 WITA, VTS Balikpapan received a report from a fisherman via WhatsApp who saw a tugboat with a barge experiencing a leak in the stern, causing it to tilt. The tugboat was identified as TB BMP 1243 with the barge NELLY 56.
The VTS operator immediately monitored the situation and called via VHF channel 16 to gather more information. At 14:30 WITA, TB BMP 1243 reported that their barge had started leaking at 09:40 WITA while passing through the waters of Sepinggan, Balikpapan.
The vessel, carrying a load of split stone or coral, departed from Palu with its destination being Sungai Riko, Balikpapan. The crew, consisting of 9 people including the captain, were reported to be safe. However, the barge is currently stranded at the stern with coordinates 01°17.8191 S, 116°54.247 E, outside the shipping lane.
In response to this situation, VTS Balikpapan has reported the incident to the harbormaster's office and port authority in Balikpapan, BASARNAS Balikpapan, and the relevant agencies in Balikpapan for further coordination. VTS also continues to monitor the situation.
