VTS Palembang (Ibu Merry Dhani) melaporkan Kecelakaan Kapal KLM Benua Indah akibat kebocoran kapal yang terjadi di daerah Bata Karang, Kabupaten Banyuasin, Provinsi Sumatera Selatan.
Hasil operasi yang dilakukan adalah sebagai berikut:
Pada tanggal 21 Maret 2024 pukul 10.32 WIB, Tim Rescue berhasil menemukan barang muatan Kapal Benua Indah yang berupa buah kelapa dan tabung gas elpiji. Barang-barang tersebut ditemukan dengan jarak 5,8 Nm dari LKP (Letak Kapal Pergi) pada koordinat -2°3'24" S 104°53'38" E.
Pada pukul 12.00 WIB, Tim Rescue tiba di LKP dan menemukan Kapal Benua Indah dalam kondisi terendam (kandas). Selain itu, seluruh kru kapal juga tidak berada di kapal.
Pada tanggal yang sama pukul 12.30 WIB, diterima informasi bahwa 5 orang ABK Kapal Benua Indah berhasil diselamatkan oleh nelayan pada pukul 18.00 WIB dan dievakuasi ke Pelabuhan Guntung Riau.
Jumlah korban dalam kecelakaan ini adalah 5 orang, yaitu:

- Yose Rizal (KKM)
- Hamka AR (Masinis)
- Hasyim (Mualim 1)
- A Rasyid (Kelasi)
Unsur yang terlibat dalam operasi ini meliputi Tim ABK KPP Palembang, Tim Rescue KPP Palembang, TNI AL Sembilang, Polair Sembilang, VTS Palembang, SROP Palembang, dan SROP Tanjung Kalian.
Alat yang digunakan dalam operasi ini antara lain RIB 02, peralatan navigasi, peralatan komunikasi, peralatan medis, dan peralatan evakuasi.
Informasi mengenai cuaca saat kecelakaan terjadi meliputi kecepatan angin, tinggi ombak, jarak pandang, dan kondisi cuaca secara umum, yang diperoleh dari sumber BMKG.

On the same day at 12:30 PM local time, information was received that 5 crew members of the Benua Indah Ship were rescued by fishermen at 6:00 PM local time and evacuated to Guntung Riau Port.
